Creative visualisation is the technique of using your imagination to create what you want in your life. Your imagination is incredibly powerful and has the ability to create a clear picture, idea or feeling of something that you want to manifest. By repeatedly focusing on something, you bring it into reality. However, in the past, many of us have used our power of creative visualisation in a relatively unconscious way. Because of our own ingrained, negative concepts about life, we have automatically focused on negative pictures of lack or limitation. What we focus on expands and so it is very important that we focus on what we want, rather than what we don’t want.

Ideas or thoughts result in emotional reactions

Our thoughts, whether positive or negative, affect our reactions and our behaviour, even if we are not consciously aware of it. For example, two people could be sitting on a plane, each having a very different experience. One could be thinking about all the things that could go wrong with the flight, and feeling anxious and scared; the other could be imagining all the wonderful things they will do on their holiday, and feeling excited and happy. The situation is exactly the same for both, but what they are feeling is very different because our subconscious mind always accepts thoughts as fact (it doesn’t know the difference between what’s real and what’s imagined).

The subconscious mind delivers what we focus on

When we have a goal or desire, like finding a partner or improving our relationship, we need to play a positive movie in our imagination so that we can achieve it in our reality. By immersing yourself in every detail of your desired outcome, you can change the neural pathways in the brain and focus the subconscious mind on exactly what you want.

Have you ever decided to buy a particular make of car, and then found that you start to see that model everywhere? This is because your subconscious mind has focused in on it and highlighted it as something of interest to you. When your subconscious and conscious mind are in agreement, you start to become more aware of ways to make those goals come true The essence is that if you can see it and you can feel it, you can become it.

The same is true for negative thoughts. If you repeatedly play a movie that you don’t deserve love, or that you don’t have the confidence to meet someone, or that your partner doesn’t want to be with you anymore, you will eventually bring that into your reality.

Opposing ideas can’t be held at the same time

Our subconscious is the stronger part of our mind and once it has accepted an idea as fact, then any opposing conscious though will always be rejected. In other words, if we play the movie of meeting our soul mate for example, any conscious objections will be overruled.

What is a Guided Visualisation?

Visualisations, or mind movies, help us to harness all our senses – sight, taste, sound, smell, feelings and sensation. However, many people find it difficult to achieve this by themselves, and they find it helpful to be guided through this sensory journey. They are a tool to help focus the mind and, listened to regularly, can create huge changes in mind set and therefore our reality.

As well as being an incredibly powerful tool, guided visualisations are also a great way to relax and rejuvenate. They offer many health benefits including lowering the blood pressure and heart rate as well as the level of stress hormones in the blood.
